'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Result: Cheltenham 1-1 MK Dons (3-5 on pens)

MK Dons managed to avoid a Capital One Cup upset at Cheltenham on Saturday, but only just!

On the stroke of half time, having seen Stephen Gleeson sent off a few minutes earlier, Dean Bowditch (45+2) sent MK into the break one-nil to the good.

Cheltenham wouldn't lie down though and equalised through Kaid Mohamed (58) just before the hour, and that goal sent the game into extra time.

This extra time period could not bring a winner so after a 1-1 draw the game needed a penalty shootout to determine the winner.

With Darryl Duffy having his penalty saved by David Martin it was left to Ryan Lowe to convert the winning penalty to give MK Dons a 5-3 win in this shootout.

Probably a little closer, and tighter, than many would have been hoping but anything is possible in a cup-tie and winning was the main thing for MK Dons!

The club can now go into the league one season confident in the knowledge that they have started the 2012/13 season with a win and a place in round two of the league cup is secured.
