'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Winkelman - I cannot believe the sending off

In a rarely seen move MK Dons chairman Pete Winkelman wouldn't allow his manager or players to talk to the media following the 1-0 defeat at Swindon.

This followed a fourth successive sending off for an MK Dons player, another that he felt was unjust: 'I am not allowing any of our football people to speak to the press. This is the first time I have done so after a game.

'This is an unprecedented start to the season, which is hugely disappointing. But I cannot believe the sending off. We are a team who play good football and are not a dirty side.'

Winkelman didn't see much wrong for Dean Lewington to see red and is calling for "greater consistency" from officials to prevent his side from gaining a "dirty side" tag: 'We had the referees in this week to see if we were going wrong. Dean was trying to wrestle the ball from a Swindon player and put his elbow up, the sort of thing that happens up and down the country every week.

'Only one of the four sendings-off was a genuine red card offence. They are having a big effect on our season. We must have greater consistency from referees.'
