MK Dons' League Cup adventure for another season when Premier League outfit Sunderland produced two moments of brilliance to knock them out at stadium:mk on Tuesday night.
The first half ended goalless, although the sides were not level as Sunderland captain Lee Cattermole was shown a red card for a nasty challenge on Adam Chicksen.
10-men or not Sunderland were still able to take the lead through Craig Gardner (54) shortly after the break. Victory, and a place in round four, was secured by the visitors late on when James McClean (82) confirmed a 2-0 win.
