Doncaster Win Delights Robinson

Doncaster Win Delights Robinson

Manager Karl Robinson was extremely quick to pass the praise onto the players following their three nil home win over Doncaster Rovers last night.

Second half goals from Dean Bowditch and a brace from Carl Baker gave us the comprehensive win, and a seventh win in eight games has kept the gap to second place in the league at just one point.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, the manager explained.

'I thought the players were excellent in the way they performed. Our game management was superb from back to front and I think they deserve tremendous credit once again. This group is surpassing what we thought of them - they are better. This is the best crop of players this Club has ever had. I don`t mean to upset anybody, frustrate anybody or say anything that are fans don`t like but I look at the squad and they`ve got tremendous heart, hunger, desire, quality and youth to go and compete a higher level for many years to come. Keith might have something to say about that!'

Robinson goes on to say that sometimes in football when times are good and you're winning games it's easy to overlook the fans and their efforts but for him the fans are intrinsic to the club.

'Whilst you are winning, sometimes it`s easy to neglect fans but they stay, they applaud, they appreciate. The connection between the players and fans is what great clubs are built on - a rapport.'

With second half substitutes grabbing the second half goals, Robinson went on to joke that he can certainly take credit for making the decision to take them on, but in reality he has faith in all the players in the squad and he's not afraid to use them.

'People can say that I`ve made the right subs but how can I make a bad one when the bench is as strong as it is?'

In a second interview, Robinson also went on to dedicate the win to the late Dr Jim Marshall OBE. The club paid it's annual tribute on the night and for the gaffer it was the perfect result to mark that occasion.

'Tonight belongs to Jim Marshall. I think he would look at this team the same way he would look at his business - thriving, forward-thinking and always striving to be better with an amazing work ethic. He and the chairman were very close for a number of years and he would look at the Football Club, in the place where his business grew, and be very proud. The city, that he was so fond of, has a football team to be proud of and the fans did him proud in the 11th minute. I know what he means to the Football Club and the fans.'
